Transitional Year – Rotations 

The transitional year program at HGMC offers a wide breadth of training across internal medicine, emergency medicine, general surgery, medicine subspecialties, and a variety of elective rotations. There are many elective opportunities available to residents to expand and discover new interests. The transitional year curriculum is tailored to meet all ACGME requirements for PGY-2 advancement in many different specialties such as radiology, anesthesiology, dermatology, ophthalmology, radiation oncology, and physical medicine and rehabilitation.

Core Rotations (Completed in 4-week blocks)

  • Internal Medicine, 12 weeks

  • ICU/Pulmonary, 4 weeks

  • Cardiology, 4 weeks

  • Emergency Medicine, 4 weeks

  • Surgery (General or Orthopedic), 4 weeks

  • OB/GYN and Pediatrics (Nursery), 4 weeks

  • Outpatient primary care clinic, 4 weeks

 

Elective Options (3 blocks, 4 weeks each). Not an exhaustive list:

  • Addiction Medicine

  • Cardiology

  • Diagnostic Radiology 

  • Dermatology

  • Endocrinology

  • Gastroenterology

  • General Surgery

  • Hematology/Oncology

  • Interventional Radiology

  • Neurology

  • Nephrology

  • Obstetrics/Gynecology

  • Outpatient Clinic

  • Radiation Oncology

 

Paid time off

  • 4 weeks total, taken in 1-week blocks
