A Message From Our Program Director:

Welcome to the KPC Health Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program! We are excited that you have chosen to learn about our program.

Our Diagnostic Radiology program is located in Hemet, California and is the only hospital in the Hemet-San Jacinto Valley, serving a large geographical area and a population of approximately 160,000 people. Most of our residents’ training is completed at our core hospital, Hemet Global Medical Center, where we gain exposure to inpatient, outpatient and emergency imaging, as well as interventional, fluoroscopic and nuclear medicine procedures. Additional experience is gained at California Imaging & Diagnostics, a local outpatient imaging center, and Loma Linda University Medical Center where our residents complete their pediatric radiology and additional PET/nuclear medicine requirements. We currently have three ACGME-approved spots that we fill through the National Residency Matching Program each year as a joint Transitional/Diagnostic Radiology track. An applicant for Diagnostic Radiology residency training will be required to successfully complete an ACGME-approved Transitional Year on our campus.

Didactics

Residents are relieved of clinical duties to participate in daily noon educational conferences. Noon didactics are provided in a variety of formats which include case reviews, interactive sessions, formal didactics, and guest lectures. Once a month, multidisciplinary grand rounds will be held in collaboration with the internal medicine, family medicine, and transitional year program residents and will provide a forum for the presentation and active discussion of relevant case material. Diagnostic Radiology residents are expected to present and explain imaging findings during these lectures. Additionally, residents will attend Morbidity and Mortality conferences, where a safe venue for identifying areas of improvement, promoting professionalism, and improving patient care will be provided. The conference also serves as an avenue for teaching quality improvement curriculum.

Scholarly Activity

Scholarly activity is an integral part of the program, and residents complete at least one scholarly project during their Diagnostic Radiology residency. Residents have access to a number of projects already underway via faculty across all residency departments and are also encouraged to start their own research or quality improvement projects. Furthermore, all residents will have access to research mentorship from faculty advisors to help navigate the research process. Publication and/or presentation of research projects is strongly encouraged, and expenses to present at national conferences will be covered by the program.

Program Strengths

Our program prides itself in the camaraderie between the residents and faculty, who get to know each resident well through daily, in-person read outs of resident cases. We have a small program emphasis on personalized teaching and mentorship. This culture of close teaching is reciprocated by residents as well; residents lead reading room teaching for medical students on their radiology electives. Additionally, residents play an active role in shaping the program, and resident feedback and suggestions are highly encouraged.
