Family Medicine Residency

Our Program

Welcome to the KPC Hemet Family Medicine Residency Program at Hemet Global Medical Center (HGMC)! We are excited that you have chosen to learn about our program.

The mission of the Family Medicine Program at HGMC is to train and educate compassionate practitioners in the core knowledge and skills of family medicine. Our hope is to improve the health of the people in California, and, especially the underserved people of Southern California.  We train our residents to graduate from our program ready for independent practice and to function as leaders in the community. Six Family Medicine positions are available each year.

Didactics

Family medicine residents attend daily noon lectures and conferences. During this time, residents are excused from clinical duties. Noon lectures are primarily given by fellow residents and faculty and also encompass journal conferences and board question reviews. On Wednesdays residents attend extended didactic sessions from 1:00-5:00 pm with faculty on in depth topics essential to family medicine.

Scholarly Activity

Scholarly activity is an integral part of the program, and residents complete at least one scholarly project during their family medicine residency. Residents have access to a number of projects already underway and are also encouraged to start their own research or quality improvement projects. Furthermore, all residents will have access to research mentorship from faculty advisors to help navigate the research process.

Our Hospital

Founded in 1943, Hemet Global Medical Center, is the only hospital in the Hemet-San Jacinto Valley, serving a population of approximately 160,000 people. The facility has grown to meet the health needs of this relatively rural and largely under-served population. With over 300 beds, and an incredibly busy Emergency Department, residents will find a plethora of patient care experiences embedded in a diverse training environment.
